After spending so long in the dark, cold days of winter, there’s nothing quite like the warm New Mexico spring that makes us want to do something new in our homes.
Here are five of our favorite ways you can refresh your home this spring.
Tackle spring cleaning
It’s time to open up the windows and let the fresh air in! Spring is the perfect time to do some deep cleaning in spaces that have been closed up all winter long. Spending a little extra time cleaning areas that often are neglected will make your home feel sparkling clean.
Here’s our ultimate spring cleaning checklist:
- Wash windows
- Wipe down baseboards
- Clean inside the fridge
- Clean inside the microwave
- Wipe down cabinet doors
- Dust shelves
- Shampoo carpets
Feeling crafty? Many cleaning supplies can be made yourself using common household ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils. These DIY cleaning solutions not only smell fresh, but they also are less toxic than many store-bought cleaners.
Get your green thumb on
Bringing plants into your home and yard is an inexpensive way to liven up your space and make it look more inviting. Don’t have a green thumb? Try growing some fail-proof plants that are easier to take care of like succulents, ivies, and cacti.
A home garden is a great way to eat healthier and also save some money. Even if you have a small yard or balcony, you can grow a few vegetables in a container garden. All you need is a little bit of space, a pot, and some sunshine.
Change up your decor
One simple way to refresh your home is to change out your decor. Switching up old pillowcases, tablecloths, curtains, and blankets for new prints gives your home an updated look. Sticking some fresh or fake flowers in a vase can emphasize the season and bring new life into a room. Traditional spring flowers are tulips, irises, and daffodils.
Never underestimate the power of a can of paint. If your house is feeling dreary, try painting an accent wall in a bright, cheerful color like turquoise or jade green. Even just repainting white walls and trim can work wonders and make your home look newer.
Declutter
Even a germ-free house will look messy if there’s clutter on the floors. While organization bins and boxes have their place, sometimes the best thing to do is minimize and get rid of excess items. Look through your closets, drawers, cabinets, and storage bins to find what you don’t need anymore.
Need some motivation? There are many different decluttering methods like the Kon-Mari method or the Four-Box method that can help you create a decluttering plan.
When you declutter, not only are you refreshing your home and creating a calmer atmosphere, but you can also help those less fortunate by donating your items to a charity store.
