The mouthwatering smell of roasting green chile is in the air, which means it’s almost time to go back to school in Las Cruces!
It sneaks up every year, and many parents end up feeling like they’re scrambling to get the kids ready for the new school year with only seconds to spare.
Steinborn & Associates wants to make the transition out of summer fun a little bit easier for you, so we compiled a helpful resource with the who, what, and how to get you ahead of the curve!

Where to get back to school supplies in Las Cruces
The Walmarts around Las Cruces usually do a good job maintaining current LCPS school supply lists at a kiosk near the front of the store. The kiosks also contain common supplies to save you time.
If school supplies create a financial burden for your family, consider reaching out to your school administration or counselor. The Stuff the Bus program collects donated supplies throughout the summer and supplies them to the public schools so each child has what he or she needs.
As of writing, LCPS hasn’t released the official school supply list for 2019-2020 yet, but check here for updates.
Take advantage of the tax-free weekend
One great way to save on back to school supplies and clothes is to wait for the tax-free weekend from August 2-4, 2019.
This annual New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday allows parents to purchase clothing and shoes (as long as items are under $100 each) without paying sales tax.
This is also a great time to buy your school supplies (including laptops and tablets under $1,000), as they qualify for the tax-free holiday as well!
But wait, it gets even better: Online purchases are also eligible for the tax-free weekend if the item is ordered and paid for between August 2-4, 2019. The billing address for the card used to make the purchase also needs to have a New Mexico address to qualify.
