Our Favorite Fall Activities in Southern New Mexico

As the days are getting shorter, the smell of roasting chiles fills the air and a hint of cooler weather blows through the trees. It sounds like fall in southern New Mexico!

Fall is one of the best seasons to explore New Mexico since the heat waves of summer start to drift away. There’s a lot to do and see in the fall throughout the region. Here are our top picks for fun activities to do in the fall.

High Rolls Apple Festival

Tucked away in the Lincoln National Forest, the Village of Cloudcroft holds the perfect event each year for apple lovers of all ages. The annual High Rolls Apple Festival features activities for children, food vendors, shopping, and of course, apples.

You can enjoy a day in the mountains snacking on apple treats like apple pie and apple cider and get a head start on your Christmas shopping at one of the many arts and crafts booths featuring handmade local goods.

The proceeds from the festival will go towards expanding the community center, which provides activities for the whole town. The Apple Festival will be held October 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and admission are free. For more information, visit the Cloudcroft Facebook page.
