Dining Al Fresco, Mesilla Valley-Style
Fall is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor dining in the Southwest!
Turn off the A/C and break out the sweaters! Fall is finally here, and this is truly one of the most beautiful times of the year in the desert southwest. Cooler temperatures provide the perfect opportunity to sample some of Mesilla Valley’s finest dining under the gorgeous blue skies or watching one of our brilliant sunsets. You will want to visit all four of our suggested restaurants to enjoy our perfect autumn weather!
Hacienda de Mesilla Grille and Cantina
The Hacienda de Mesilla Grille and Cantina is located inside the Hacienda de Mesilla boutique hotel. The hotel features 14 guest rooms appointed with all the features of modern comfort along with the cool, relaxing atmosphere of a Spanish hacienda.
This ambience is mirrored in the restaurant where a comfortable yet upscale menu includes steak, seafood, poultry, and other fresh seasonal entrées — with a New Mexico twist, of course.
Outdoor seating is located right near the pool area where you can relax and enjoy the shaded patios by day and the sparkling lights reflected off the pool in the evenings. Live music is featured from time to time, so check the website for more details.
Not to be missed: Green chile crab bisque and blue corn enchiladas.
St. Clair Winery & Bistro
Another quaint Mesilla eatery, St. Clair Winery and Bistro offers a lovely outdoor dining experience on the patio just off the dining area. The cool greenery and Old West decor will whet your appetite for a hearty New Mexico wine paired with one of St. Clair’s unique dishes. St. Clair’s offers selections from many award-winning New Mexico wineries and breweries along with delicious food from their epicurean-style menu. Italian dishes with a subtle New Mexico flair, such as the Chicken Picado with hatch chile and the Pasta New Mexico, headline a menu that also offers a delicious twist on the traditional seafood and steaks.
Josefina’s Old Gate
In the heart of Old Mesilla, Josefina’s is a perfect place to enjoy the gorgeous fall weather and bask in the beauty and history of Historic Old Mesilla. Dating back to the early 1900s, Josefina’s is named for the woman who lived there for 35 years. Sitting under the vigas by the kiva oven enjoying an iced tea or one of their signature salads, you will truly be transported to another time, one where life moved at a slower pace and a delicious meal was meant to be savored. Josefina’s cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch, so come by early and linger with friends and family.
Pecan Grill & Brewery
Our last selection is not in Old Mesilla, but it deserves a mention for outdoor dining this fall.
Beer aficionados will enjoy the Pecan Grill & Brewery as it is a perfect spot to enjoy a cool pint on the patio this fall. Even better, sample a few of their 11 brews with a beer flight while enjoying something from their refined pub menu which features locally-sourced ingredients as much as possible. Live music is featured frequently, so check out the website and come enjoy the cool fall air with music, great food, and excellent beer.
